I write poetry because I get sick when I don't. There's always something brewing and I have to let it out or prison riots occur. The books in my large collection are the result of an insatiable curiosity about pretty much everything, and a persisting drive (not always in high gear, often in neutral) to get better at being an informed and active participant in each moment of life while I can. I'm nearly 80 and have no illusions of immortality.

After 21+ years of mechanical living I was shocked awake by the sudden death of my father at age 51. At his funeral my oldest sister, a true genius and renaissance woman, urged me to get busy, get our of Batesville, Indiana and expand my horizons. Best advice I ever got. It was 1966, a perfect time to widen horizons, and I've been doing that ever since.

I have many interesting stories to tell, some which actually happened. The best of the rest are are poems.
