Sherri Goren Slovin

Sherri Goren Slovin is a botanical print artist in Cincinnati, Ohio. In botanical printing, she found
a creative outlet that combines her love of hiking and nature with texture, shape and color.
The print process is time consuming. Each scarf begins with white silk and leaves/flowers
gathered near her home. After preparing the fabric to absorb the color of flowers and the
tannin in leaves, she arranges the gathered materials, often adding natural dyes for the
backgrounds. Steaming the bundle is the next step. The real joy of the work is the
unpredictability. The same kind of leaf can print very differently depending on the season and
the conditions. The silk holds a shadow of what once was. For Sherri, the magic is the imperfect
and the unknown.
